Haryana Board of School Education today declared results for Class X and XII examinations, with nearly 60 per cent of Class X students failing to pass the exam.

While girls fared slightly better than the boys, the overall pass percentage was just 41.28 for Class X and 53.96 per cent in the senior secondary (Class XII) examinations.

The opposition was quick to hit out at the BJP government over the poor results, with main opposition INLD saying the results were "extremely worrisome".

"Even the present BJP government has failed to set right the Haryana's education system, which was left in a bad shape by the previous Congress regime. The results declared today are extremely worrisome," INLD leader Digvijay Singh Chautala, who is also the party's student wing chief, said.

The girls, however, registered 18.69 per cent higher pass percentage than the boys in the senior secondary exam at 64.57 per cent against 45.88 per cent of the boys.

In the secondary examination, the girls' pass percentage was 44.62 per cent as against 38.44 per cent secured by the boys.

Reports said that the government schools had fared much worse compared to private schools in both secondary and senior secondary examinations.
