The Haryana Chief Secretary, S C Choudhary, today visited Gurgaon and held meeting with senior district officials to review the availability of basic amenities here.

In the meeting held at the Divisional Commissioner's office, Choudhary directed the officials to chalk out a plan for repair, maintenance and carpeting of roads in the Millennium City in a time-bound manner.

Emphasising proper use of water, Choudhary said Gurgaon should have a water management authority on the pattern of Delhi Jal Board. He said when there is an authority for both water and sewage, an organised plan could be put up and managed in a more efficient way.

Informed about the commissioning of the 22 MGD water treatment plant at Chandu Budhera, he said tube-wells that have been rendered surplus because of the availability of this additional water, should be closed, but the authorities should ensure that it did not cause any inconvenience to the public.

He said there was no shortage of funds for taking up development works in Gurgaon and not doing works despite availability of resources would not be tolerated.

He said the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) would prepare an action plan for making roads traffic worthy in its area while the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) would plan for its area.

Commissioner of the Gurgaon Division DPS Naggal told the Chief Secretary that since the condition of roads in colonies developed by builders was not good, people living there were suffering. So despite much effort for improvement of infrastructure, a gap remains in privately developed colonies.

At this, Choudhary said that he would ask the Director General Town & Country Planning to intervene. He also discussed solid waste management projects.

Since this was first visit of Choudhary after being elevated to the post of Chief Secretary, he was accorded the guard of honour by police squad. He also visited temple of Mata Sheetla Devi where he offered prayers.

Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal, MCG Commissioner Praveen Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi, DCP (East) Nazneen Bhasin, Estate Officers of HUDA Narender Singh Yadav and Surinder Singh, Chief Engineer of HUDA B S Singroha, Superintendent Engineer of MCG Y K Garg, SE HUDA Adarsh Gupta and A K Makkan, Joint Commissioners of MCG Anju Chaudhary and Veena Hooda were present in the meeting.
