Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today asked Khaps to play a definite role in the overall development of the state.

Addressing representatives of various Khaps at Haryana Bhawan here, he asked them to follow the dictum of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) and stressed on the need for unity in society to ensure overall development of the state.

"Everybody should make a contribution in this direction," he said.

Khattar urged people to rise above casteism and said the Haryana government wants to ensure welfare of all sections of the society.

"We would have to promote moral education to eradicate social evils from the society and launch a massive campaign to awaken the people," he said.

Treading the path shown by Deendayal Upadhyaya, the Haryana Government is keen on ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes percolate down to the grassroots level.

Referring to the issue of reservation for the Jat community, Khattar said the matter had reached the high court. Reservation should be given only to those who are weak and need it, he said.

Stressing on the need for generating employment opportunities for youth to check socio-economic disparities, he said that the education system would be improved to achieve the goal.

Speaking on the occasion, Haryana Agriculture Minister, O P Dhankhar said that there had been constructive change in the thinking and outlook of the Khaps which were now playing a great role in the eradication of female foeticide and other social evils.
