With a view to conserve environment, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today launched a state-wide plantation campaign from the Narwana sub-division of the district.

The campaign would to be carried out from July to August this year.

School students from class 6 to 12 would take part in it. They would plant one sapling each during the rainy season and would also be responsible to take care of these plants, Khattar said.

The chief minister flagged off more than two dozen tractors and trolleys loaded with plants.

He said that under this campaign, the students could plant the saplings at their school, courtyard of their home, canal, streams, parks or any other public place.

The children would also give names to the plant as per their choice with the date of plantation specified on it, he said.

The chief minister said that the schools would encourage the students to ensure the survival of the plants.

After every six months, the plants would be inspected and Rs 50 would be given for three years after every six months, which can be spent for the maintenance or for providing manure to their plants, he said.

If the plant dies due to some reason, the students could continue participating in the next plantation campaign, he said.
