"Yes, he has given his statement", Panchkula's Deputy Commissioner of Police Parul Kush Jain told PTI over phone.

She, however, declined to reveal what statement Fauji had made before the police.

"We are examining it. I cannot reveal anything more at this stage," she said.

Fauji, Congress MLA from Bawani Khera reserved constituency in Bhiwani district, who had suffered "pesticide poisoning" had been found unconscious in the bathroom of his Panchkula residence on April 14 under mysterious circumstances.

Fauji had not come out of the bathroom for a long time and the door was later opened by his servants and other staff members who found him lying unconscious.

The 43-year-old MLA had remained in the ICU of PGIMER for several days and is still admitted in the hospital.

Haryana Police had so far maintained that Fauji was not fit to give his statement. They had remained tight lipped whether there was any suicide angle involved.

An ex-Army man and considered close to late Chief Minister Bansi Lal's family, Fauji is a three-time legislator from his constituency.

The opposition INLD had raked up Fauji's issue, saying the Hooda government was trying to sweep the incident under the carpet as "there was some mystery behind the whole incident".

The INLD had also demanded a high-level probe into the episode.
