The Haryana government has made it mandatory for its doctors to clearly mention the reason if they decide to refer the medical cases, including the medico-legal ones, to other health institutions.

"From now, doctors will have to write clearly on the refer slip, as to why the patient is being referred to the higher centres," an official spokesperson said.

He said it had been noticed that various medico-legal or other cases were referred to higher centres without mentioning on the refer slip or the hospital register, the details of examinations conducted earlier.

The principal medical officer, medical superintendent or the senior medical officer of the respective institution will analyse the cases as to why such patients were being referred to higher centres, and also specify if it was because of the non-availability of the specialist or facilities.
