Haryana Government has directed all its departments and organisations to switch over to appropriate and standardised domain names for their respective websites and applications by December 31.

The move is aimed at maintaining uniformity across the state in using the domain names of government websites.

"Bodies like Haryana Assembly, government departments and commissions would use domain '.Gov.In' for their websites and applications," a spokesman of Electronics and IT Department of Haryana said here today.

All the state PSUs including Boards and Corporations and Statutory Authorities will use the domain '.Org.In'.

Universities, government-controlled educational, academic and research institutions would avail themselves of either '.Edu.In' or '.Ac.In' as domain to maintain uniformity for their websites and applications, he said.

He also cautioned that websites of government and government-owned or controlled bodies could only be hosted on "servers and data centres in India to ensure applicability of relevant Indian laws and compliance with relevant Central Government instructions.
