As many as 22 traffic police stations and five traffic police posts have been set up, besides providing 32 high speed interceptors to the police to control the menace of overspeeding vehicles.
This was stated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while replying to a question during the second day of the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha.
66,487 traffic rules violators had been intercepted by the police and challaned during the period from January 1, 2012, to July 31, 2012.
17,876 drunken drivers had been fined during the same span of time.
43 ambulances had been provided for timely medical assistance to road accident victims. Sobriety checkpoints had also been set up and sufficient Alco-Censors had been procured to check drunken driving in all the districts of the state.
Overloading of goods vehicles and other related offences were being looked into by the District Traffic Officers and presently by Secretary, Regional Transport Authority under the overall control of the Transport Department, he said.

A road safety organisation had also been created, which was working efficiently in each district and supporting the police in its road safety awareness campaigns.
As many as 1,170 accident prone points had been identified in the state, out of which 803 points had been rectified and others would be taken care of shortly.
In addition, 1,051 points had been identified for construction of speed breakers, out of which 810 speed breakers had already been constructed, he added.
The Chief Minister said a traffic control room with a round-the-clock free helpline had also been established with its headquarters at Karnal to tackle accident cases.
