Haryana Minister O P Dhankar today said the Irrigation department has identified around 10,000 ponds in the state from where availability of water would be ensured for irrigation purposes and for animals.

The Agriculture and Irrigation Minister disclosed this while addressing a gathering in village Kheri Sultan and Patauda in district Jhajjar.

He said the state government has been making efforts to ensure water supply up to the tail end of farms so that the farmers have sufficient water supply for irrigation purposes and do not face any difficulty due to its shortage.

For this, work is being carried out in a planned manner, he said.

He assured the farmers that capacity of canal water would also be increased to take the water supply right up to the tail end of farms in villages.

Dhankar said 'Village Secretariats' would be set up in villages so that people would not have to visit government offices located at far places for redressal of their problems.

Every aspect of development starts from rural environment and for this concerted steps were being taken at departmental level, the minister said.

He said a strong Gau Samvardhan Act would be enacted in Haryana under which strict actions would be taken against anyone indulged in cow slaughtering.

Under the Act, any vehicle used for this purpose would be confiscated and would be auctioned, he said, adding that there would also be a provision of 10 years of imprisonment to the person who would be found guilty of cow slaughtering.

He urged the villagers to take benefit of various schemes of the government.

The state government is providing employment opportunities by giving subsidy of 50 per cent to those involved in cow rearing, 25 per cent to those involved in dairy business and also subsidy to those involved in fisheries, he said.

On the occasion, the minister also took round of wheat fields of farmers of Badli town which have been affected with drizzling and strong winds.

He said the assessment of the damage caused to wheat fields would be done.

Dhankar also visited six villages and redressed the grievances of people and issued directions to the officers concerned on the spot.
