Haryana govt to take steps to curb drug abuse

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij today said that educative and preventive methods would be adopted to prevent the youth of the state from falling victims to drug menace.

He said that the state government would make every possible effort to keep the youth away from drugs.

Under this, the youth would be counselled and provided free of cost treatment.

Despite the efforts of government, if anybody found involved in drug business, then strict action would be taken against those, he added.

A state level coordination committee is being constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Director General of Police and at district level, committees are being constituted under the chairmanship of concerned Deputy Commissioner, for the purpose.
 

Monthly meeting of these committees would be conducted to review the latest situation, he said.

According to the minister, a policy for youth would also be formulated to keep the youth free from drugs, which would include schemes for the development of youth.

Under the scheme, the youth would be inspired to adopt skill development, social welfare, sports and yoga training programmes and cultural activities depending on their interest so as to channelise their energy in right direction and to contribute to the over all development of the society.

Education department, non-government organisations and other social organisations would be involved to make the youth aware about harmful affects of drugs, he said adding that an effective system would be put into place for drug addicts to shun addiction.

Drug de-addiction centres would be opened in all districts and the existing ones would be made more active and functional, he said.

To keep people free from drugs, the health department would soon select civil hospitals for establishing de-addiction centres, he said.
