Interacting with media persons after the Cabinet meeting here, the Chief Minister said he had directed officers concerned to take technical advice for setting up solar power plants on canals.
The state government has also signed an MoU with Bhutan for setting up a 1500-2000 MW hydro power project, he said.
He said that work on the nuclear power plant at Gorakhpur in Fatehabad District had already been started.
Asked about the problems being faced by the thermal plants in the state, Hooda said inadequate availability of coal posed a problem but this had affected the entire country.
"We have requested the Central Government to allocate a special coal block to Haryana," he said.
Asked to comment on the issue raised at the meeting of the National Development Council (NDC) in Delhi on the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal, Hooda said, "We are demanding our share of the water and would continue to make efforts till we get it. Request has been made for early hearing on the matter of SYL Canal."
