Press Trust of India Chandigarh
Haryana Home Department today has asked the Director General of Police and all District Magistrates in the state to adhere to the guidelines for conducting magisterial enquiry in cases of death in custody or in course of police action.

According to the guidelines issued by National Human Rights Commission, the enquiry in such cases should be conducted at the earliest without undue delay, a Home Department spokesman said here.

The Enquiry Magistrate should visit crime scenes to understand the facts on ground and should make an attempt to identify witnesses who are likely to have been present at the scene by recording their statements, he said.

Family version should also be taken into account and must be thoroughly investigated for its veracity in cases related to deaths in encounter or in custody, he said.
