The Haryana government today issued detailed guidelines defining the term "meritorious" for the prupose of admissions in all private schools in the state under Rule 134-A of Haryana School Education Rules 2003.
Rule 134-A deals with admission of meritorious EWS/BPL students in private schools.
Presiding over a meeting of officers of School Education Department here state's Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma defined the term.

"Merit of the applicant students of the government schools will be determined on the basis of their performance in the Monthly Assessment Tests held in the previous years.
"The word 'Meritorious' will include the students who have secured at least 50 per cent marks in each of the last four Monthly Assessment Tests, that is November, December, January, and February and at at least 55 per cent marks in these tests of the previous class conducted by Department of School Education in Haryana," he said, according to an official release.
In the case of applicant students coming from private schools in the state and from outside, a committee headed by Additional DC will conduct the test.
The students securing 55 per cent marks will be considered Meritorious. The question paper for the test will be set by State Council of Educational Research and Training, Gurgaon, he said.
The test will be conducted on the sub division level and the date of test would be intimated by the department.
The Minister said fees would be reimbursed online by the government to the private schools in respect of the students admitted by them under Rule 134 A on quarterly basis at the rates fixed by the government from time to time.
All such admissions will be uploaded on the web portal of the Directorate by the concerned schools, he added.
He said schedule regarding further action is being issued in this regard.
