Haryana karate players bag 3 medals

Gold winner Sumit Chhillar of Bamdauli village here and Gaurav Sihag, who resides in sector 6, were accorded a warm welcome on arrival yesterday evening. Sonia, the other medallist, is from Hisar.

Rajneesh Chaudhary, coach of the team, said that hundreds of karate players from five countries had participated in various categories.

"Though as many as 18 players from different states of India had taken part in this mega event, all three medals were won by players of Haryana," said the coach.

He informed that Chhillar grabbed the gold by defeating a Chinese 5:2.

Sihag said his next target was to qualify for the Olympic Games, to be held in Rio in 2016.

 

"I will toil hard to qualify for the Rio Olympics as it is my wish to bring laurels to India as well as Haryana by clinching a medal in the most coveted event," said Gaurav.
