In a letter to Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jayanthi Natarajan, Haryana Power, Forests and Environment Minister Ajay Singh Yadav has asked her to ensure compliance of directions issued to Rajasthan Pollution Control Board under section 18(1) (b) of Water Act, 1974.
Yadav, as per an official spokesman, said that the effluent was being discharged intermittently into the open drain leading to Dharuhera in the territory of Haryana.
He said that the discharge of effluent was causing serious concern as highly polluted effluent was affecting the habitation and crops of adjoining villages namely Mahashawari and Malpura.
He said that a number of complaints have been received from residents of these villages regarding discharge of this untreated effluent.
This polluted effluent was stagnant in the form of cesspools near HUDA sectors and National Highway No 8 causing nuisance to the residents of the area, he added.
He said that this matter has been taken up by Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) from time to time with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) and recently, the CPCB has issued directions to Chairman, RSPCB for addressing this issue of inter-state pollution.
Yadav said that the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) installed by Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Industrial Corporation (RIICO) was not functioning properly and was unable to treat whole discharge of industrial units of Bhiwadi industrial area.
Also, a team of HSPCB and Regional Officer, Dharuhera visited RIICO Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), but no satisfactory steps have been taken in this regard.
