Haryana ministers Krishan Kumar and Nayab Singh Saini today accused the key political clans of Punjab and Haryana, the Chautalas and the Badals, of colluding together to weaken Haryana's stand on Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal before the Supreme Court of India.

The two ministers said under the leadership of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who is serving a 10-year jail term following his conviction in teachers' recruitment scam, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) was vitiating the state's atmosphere by inciting the people to undertake digging of the canal.

Chautala, who is presently on parole, is touring the state and inciting the people to undertake digging in name of strengthening social ties, they added.

"Chautala and Badal families are colluding to weaken the stand of Haryana on SYL," the said.

They said all facts in the matter favoured Haryana and the Supreme Court had directed Punjab to release water to Haryana.

The INLD, however, has been hindering the process by inciting the people of the State to breach the law, they said.

If INLD succeeds in its efforts, Punjab would get a chance to strengthen its stand in the court by accusing Haryana of adopting unlawful methods, they said.

This would not be in the interests of the people of Haryana, they added.

They appealed to the people against getting misled by any such statements and to uphold the law.
