The Haryana government has raised the retirement age of anganwadi workers, helpers and mini anganwadi workers from 60 to 65 years.

The decision will benefit over 51,000 workers associated with 25,962 anganwadi centres in the state.

The announcement regarding this was made by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while addressing a 'Mahila Samman Samaroh' (women felicitation ceremony) at his residence here today.

At the event, the Chief Minister honoured 22 women for achievements in different fields.

Taking a dig at Opposition parties, Hooda said he was not in the habit of criticising others, but they were unable to digest the various welfare decisions being run him.

Hooda said during the Gohana Shakti rally recently, he had announced to increase old-age pension, widow pension and pension to the disabled to Rs 1,000 per month and also increased honorarium of anganwadi workers, helpers and mini anganwadi workers.

But instead of welcoming these decisions, the Opposition leaders stated that it was mere announcements and could not be implemented.

Besides, they also alleged that he was squandering the state treasure.

Hooda said he was "squandering" the state treasure for the welfare of people and not like those political leaders who do so for themselves.
