Emphasising on efforts made by Haryana government to improve public transport services in the state, Transport Minister Aftab Ahmed today said a Road Safety Authority would soon be constituted.
Ahmed said a draft of Haryana Road Safety Authority Act has been prepared and a fund would also be created in which 50 per cent of fee collected for offences under Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 would be deposited to be utilised by the authority to settle cases related to road safety.
The minister said that a state-level coordination committee on road safety has been constituted under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Transport to address all the issues pertaining to road safety.

A new website has also been started by the Department for providing informative services, e-payment facility and for strengthening grievances redresser mechanism.
"All works pertaining to registration of motor vehicles and issue of driving licences has been computerised. Computerised receipts are being issued for the cash received in all the offices of Registering and Licensing Authorities," he added.
Road Safety Awareness Clubs are being set up in all the 88 Government Colleges in the State, in order to spread awareness among students about road safety, he said.
Ahmed said that with a view to check the menace of overloading of vehicles in Haryana, more than 11,976 vehicles have so far been fined during the current financial year.
He said that an Inspection and Testing Centre equipped with fully automated and computerised machines is being set up at Rohtak with Central financial assistance of Rs 14.40 crore.
The Centre will have a capacity to check road worthiness of 1.25 lakh-1.50 lakh vehicles per year. The construction of the building of the Centre has started, he added.
