The grant, recommended by the 4th State Finance Commission, aims at improving financial and functional status of PRIs and ULBs, commission's chairman LSM Salins said here today.

Speaking after meeting officials of Gurgaon Division, Salins said in the changed scenario of constitutional amendments, local bodies -- both rural and urban -- are reckoned as vibrant units of local governance.

The 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments have given new dimensions and institutional strength to the rural and urban local bodies, he held.

Entrusted with the responsibility of suggesting measures to strengthen and empower local bodies during next three years, the 4th State Finance Commission is holding consultations with all concerned officials at various divisions of the state, he said.

The Commission is also taking opinion of the elected representatives of these local bodies, he said.

The First Central Finance Commission gave Rs 100 crore to PRIs and ULBs of the state, whereas the 13th Central Finance Commission recommended Rs 1580 crore grant for Haryana, he informed.

After the constitution of 3 State Finance Commission in Haryana, the amount of grants given to PRIs and ULBs was increased significantly and it was Rs 1305 crore.
