Haryana Agricultural University teachers today went on a day-long strike demanding promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme of the Sixth Pay Commission and accused the government of having an "indifferent attitude" towards their long pending grievances.

Haryana Agricultural University Teachers Association (HAUTA) President Raj Singh and Secretary R S Dhillon told reporters that the teachers and scientists have been "deprived of their promotions under the new Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) of the Sixth Pay Commission."

"No promotions of teachers and scientists have been taken place in HAU after December 31, 2008. Due to the non-implementation of this new scheme (promotion policy), majority of the teachers are suffering substantial financial loss."

"This new scheme has already been implemented in all other universities of Haryana, other agricultural universities as well in ICAR institutions," Raj Singh said.

The teachers protested in front of the administrative block of the University raising slogans in support of their demands and also refused to carry out registration work for new comers.
