The Haryana government has decided to dismiss 140 doctors who have been abstaining from duty for a long period, Health Minister Anil Vij said today.
He also said the government has decided to create a special cadre for specialist doctors and a meeting of the departments concerned would soon be held over this.
"It has been decided to dismiss 140 doctors who have been abstaining from duty for a long time," he said here, adding, "it is because of this reason that new doctors could not be recruited and the patients suffered".

He said shortage of doctors in hospitals has been faced for a very long time.
"The department had thrice published the notices of absence of these doctors from hospitals in newspapers, but only some responded and 140 of them did not," he said.
Vij, who also holds Sports and Youth Affairs portfolio, said an Adventure Sports Academy has been set up in the state.
Sport like river rafting would be organised in Rishikesh, rock climbing and other sports in Manali, and Narkanda and other water-based sports in river Beas, he said.
