Haryana to give pension to ex-panchayat heads

The Haryana government has decided to grant pension to former village heads, chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of zilla parishads and panchayat samitis.

Finance Minister Abhimanyu said the state government had decided to give pension to former panchayat representatives on the instructions of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar,

Only village heads or chairpersons elected after 1994 will get the benefit of this scheme, the minister said in a release on Tuesday.

A former village head will get a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 and a former zilla parishad chairperson will receive Rs 2,000, while a vice-chairperson will get Rs 1,000, according to the statement.

 

The former head and vice-chairperson of a panchayat samiti will get Rs 1,500 and Rs 750, respectively.

As many as 25,336 people will be given the pension benefit at a total outlay of Rs 30.6 crore annually. The rules have also been framed for this pension and those who are eligible will get the benefit, it added.
