Haryana to open bank accounts of 50,000 poor people

It is also proposed to provide interest at subsidised rates for setting up own venture to 3,750 people

Haryana government has decided to start Rashtriya Shahri Aajivika Mission from the current financial year and has drawn up a target to open bank accounts of 50,000 poor people.

It is also proposed to provide interest at subsidised rates for setting up own venture to 3,750 people and imparting skill training to 15,000 youth, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said today.

He was addressing representatives of Urban Local Bodies including Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Municipal Councillors at a function in Panchkula.

Hooda said infrastructure in urban areas is being strengthened under Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission.
 

"The government has also launched an affordable housing scheme under which two lakh affordable houses would be constructed for urban poor," he said.

Hooda also announced increase in the monthly honorarium of all representatives of Municipal Corporations, Councils and Committees.

He asked them to ensure benefit of the schemes and programmes of state government to all eligible in their respective wards.

Referring to the developmental works for urban areas, the Chief Minister said many projects have been executed during the last ten years.

Hooda said the budget of Urban Local Bodies Department has been raised to Rs 2,060 crore in 2014-15 from just Rs 200 crore in 2005-06.

The power of municipalities for executing developmental works has been increased. In case of Municipal Corporation, the House could pass developmental works up to Rs 1 crore which was Rs 25 lakh earlier.

Power of Municipal Committee has been enhanced from Rs three lakh to Rs 10 lakh and Councils from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for similar purposes, he said.

Hooda also said 875 unauthorised colonies have been regularised.
