Haryana's Tourism Department has prepared a 'Tirath Darshan' scheme under which senior citizens above 60 years of age would be able to visit various religious places, state tourism minister Ram Bilas Sharma said today.

He said people belonging to all religions could avail of the scheme.

Under the scheme, the department would bear the entire cost of tour of senior citizens belonging to BPL families whereas in case of senior citizens belonging to non-BPL families, it would bear 70 per cent of the cost.

A maximum of 250 senior citizens would be taken to specific destinations every year by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. This facility would be given to one senior citizen out of one lakh persons in each district of the state, he said in an official release.

Sharma said that interested persons would have to submit their applications in the office of Tehsil, Sub Divisional Magistrate, or Deputy Commissioner concerned.

If applications exceed the numbers of seats available, the committee constituted at district level under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner would prepare the final list after screening, he added.
