"The membership drive has been started in the state which will go on till June 13. We want to add more number of youth to strengthen the party," Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress State President Chiranjeev Rao told reporters here today.

He said two years back when a similar membership drive was started, State Youth Congress managed to register four lakh youth as members.

Rao, who is the son of Haryana Power Minister Ajay Yadav said after three months, an election for new officer bearers of Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress would be held.

He said that the state youth Congress has worked for addressing the problems of Panchayats and campaign against female foeticide.

Asked about the land acquisition policy, Rao said that he was completely against the acquisition of fertile land for industrialisation.

"The industrialisation should be started in backward areas like Mewat, Rewari by acquiring barren land instead of acquiring fertile land like Ambala for setting up industrial estate," he said.

He said the Haryana Youth Congress even protested against the acquisition of 1852 acres of land in Amabala for setting up of Industrial Model Township by the state government. "We met Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in this regard and thereafter land was not acquired," he said.

Rao was flanked by his wife Anushka, daughter of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad.
