Hate speech case: Akbaruddin sent to jail for 14 days

42-year-old Akbaruddin, who flew in from London on Monday, spent the night at the police station in Nirmal town, about 200 km from Hydrabad, and was produced at 5.30 AM before the magistrate who sent him in judicial remand till January 22.

An MLA, Akbaruddin, younger brother of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief and MP Asdauddin Owaisi, was taken to Adilabad district jail, about 80 kms from here, police said.

He has sought a direction from the magistrate to shift him to Hyderabad.

Nirmal town police suo moto booked a case on January 3 against Akbaruddin for his alleged provocative speech under IPC Section 121 (waging or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the government of India) and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, language etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony).
