Dairy products maker Hatsun Agro Products has inaugurated the company's 500th milk bank in the state at Dharmapuri, provided with an active bulk cooler system.

The city-based company has 9,500 milk collection centres in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Around 500 centres (of the 9,500 milk collection centres) have an active bulk cooler system which operates on a thermal energy battery and can function even in remote villages having intermittent electricity supply.

Hatsun Agro has invested over Rs 50 crore in installing the bulk coolers at villages which help in keeping milk chill using thermal energy battery.

The bulk coolers help in chilling the raw milk collected from farmers thereby ensuring that it remained cold till it reaches the processing facility.

The three main benefits of installing this technology is - faster cooling, improvement in milk quality, elimination of diesel for power backup.

"The benefit of such a technology is, farmers situated even in the remotest village who were unable to supply milk to dairy companies, can now, do so with reliable milk refrigeration at their doorstep," company's Chairman and Managing Director R G Chandramogan said in the statement.

Hatsun Agro procures milk directly from over four lakh farmers. The company's products are exported to over 38 countries, the release added.
