The body of G Mohankumar, Havildar of 25 Madras Regiment, who was killed in a bomb attack by suspected militants in Manipur two days back, was cremated here today with state honours.
The body of 41-year-old Mohankumar, who was killed in a bomb attack by suspected militants in Thesgothang village in Manipur on May 30, was earlier brought to city airport by an Air India aircraft here and taken to his hometown in Kovaipudur in a military van, accompanied by senior officials of the state government and the district administration.
The body was received by Commandant of Madras Regiment Centre, Sureshkumar, military officials and police.
A cheque for Rs 10 lakh, announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to the family, was handed over to Bhanumathi, widow of Mohankumar by Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani.
