After hearing the petition moved against the death sentence, a division bench of Justices D N Patel and Prashant Kumar absolved Arjun Mahato of all charges and set him free.
Mahato had been convicted by a Giridih court some time ago in connection with killing two persons of a family under Bhirni police station of Giridih district on April 2, 1999.
In its order, the bench said there was insufficient evidence against him.
