To spread awareness among teenagers about sexual abuse, Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal conducted a sensitisation programme for the students of a well-known school on the law and punishment for sexual offences here today.

Justice Mittal, who is also the executive chairperson of the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), accompanied the students of Modern School, Barakhamba Road, to a nearby police station and LNJP Hospital, where they were told about 'One Stop Centres' which provide facilities such as medical assistance and counselling to victims of sexual offences and abuse.

A statement issued by the office of the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court said the objective of the programme was to make children aware of the forms of sexual violence and to empower them to take remedial action if any such incident takes place with them or if they come to know about it.

At the same time, the students were cautioned that if they commit any such act, they could be held responsible for their action under the law.

The statement also said that at the Barakhamba Road police station, the students were educated about its working and they were made aware about how

complaints are lodged as well as the manner in which the rights of the victims and accused are protected by the police.

A similar sensitisation programme is scheduled to be held on April 26 for Air Force Bal Bharti School and on April 27 for Mothers' International School, it said.

The sensitisation programme is part of a module being prepared on educating students in the age group of 14-18 years about sexual violence.

The statement said that the module aims at creating awareness about cyber crimes and the digital world as children these days have easy access to digital media and may be susceptible to digital crimes.

It includes discussion on issues such as law and punishment for bullying, eve-teasing, and stalking, dating violence, peer abuse and elopement cases, as well as redressal mechanism like helplines and legal aid.
