The Delhi High Court today adjourned to July 1 the proceedings on a plea for quashing an FIR lodged against a New York City policeman after he was arrested at the IGI Airport here for carrying bullets.

Manny Encarnacion (49), who has been granted bail in the case, was arrested from the airport in March for having live ammunition rounds in his coat pocket. He had come to India to visit his wife.

The FIR was lodged under the Arms Act.

According to Encarnacion's lawyer Samarjeet Pattnaik, before leaving for India, the officer had gone to the New York Police Department's firing range and had some bullets in his coat pocket.

He then packed the coat for the trip, without realising that the bullets were in it, Pattnaik said.

If convicted under the Arms Act, Encarnacion can be sentenced to up to three years in jail.

The case is being heard by Justice Sunil Gaur.
