The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today admitted a petition by the Tamilnadu Pharmacist Welfare Association seeking to quash a government order which stipulated weightage for marks in recruitment for the post of pharmacist instead of selection on the basis of seniority.

Admitting the petition filed by the Association General Secretary K Arun Singh, Justice C.Vaidhyanathan said the appointments would be subject to the outcome of the decision on the petition.

The petitioner submitted that the government originally followed state-level seniority in the recruitment of pharmacists.

But on December 16, 2014 a new G.O. Was issued by the Medical Services Recruitment Board under which weightage would be given for marks among others.

He contended that the new system would create chaos among the pharmacists who had obtained diplomas under four different courses with different syllabus. The best option would be only seniority.
