The Delhi High Court today agreed to hear a PIL filed by an NGO questioning the "sincerity" of the city police in investigating crime against women alleging that the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ambedkar Nagar granted bail to a rape accused.
The public interest litigation (PIL) was mentioned before a bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul who directed the matter be listed before the appropriate court tomorrow.
The bench, however, made it clear there should be proof that the police officer granted bail to the rape accused, else a cost of Rs one lakh could be imposed on the NGO Centre for Human Rights.

Initially, the police had refused to lodge an FIR but after the victim and her brother contacted senior police officials, an FIR under section 376 (rape) and other provisions of the IPC was lodged on September 27, the petition has alleged.
