The Calcutta High Court today asked the 21st July Commission, set up by the present state government to inquire into the police firing in 1993 killings of 13 Youth Congress activists, to be represented before it tomorrow.

A division bench comprising Justice Pranab Chattopadhyay and Justice Samapti Chattopadhyay, acting on an appeal by three former IPS officers, directed the Commission to present details of who it has examined so far.

The matter would come up for hearing tomorrow.

Dinesh Vajpayee, N K Singh and R K Johuri, who were senior officers of the Kolkata Police at the time the incident took place, had moved the court of Justice Dipankar Dutta, challenging a notice by the Commission to appear before it.

Justice Dutta disposed of their petition directing that they would appear before the Commission on a clear notice by it of at least seven days.

Challenging this, the petitioners moved an appeal before the division bench.

On July 21, 1993, thirteen Youth Congress activists and supporters were killed in the police firing during a "March to Writers Buildings".

Former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who was then the Information and Cultural Affairs minister in the Jyoti Basu cabinet, appeared before the commission recently and justified the police firing on the ground that it was an attempt to capture the state secretariat.
