The Delhi High Court today asked the amicus curiae, appointed by it, to explore the possibility of admitting in a boarding school a 13-year-old girl who was kept away from schools by her mother for the past five years.

"The committee (of three lawyers) is directed to explore the possibility to admit the minor child in a girl's boarding school in Delhi," Justice Manmohan said.

It also asked the mother to ensure that her child attends the school in south Delhi, where she was enrolled after the court's direction.

The court on September 16 had appointed three lawyers as amicus curiae to monitor the progress of the kid and get her admitted in a school after getting her examined by doctors.

The court said she can stay long in the boarding school and also interact with kids of her age group, which she is not able to do as of now.

"She (the child) only studied till class II. She should have been in class seven. Already she has been kept away from the society from last seven years.

"We need to keep her in a school for long hours where she gets proper food, which will improve her health. She is not up to her age," the judge said.

The court was hearing the plea of the woman's ex-husband, who alleged that their child has been deliberately withdrawn from the school by his former wife.

The court disallowed the mother's plea that the child be allowed to live with her after school, saying "we are doing it for betterment of your kid".

It also said that it would be better that she goes to boarding school as she will be under special supervision.
