The Gauhati High Court today directed the Assam Police to hand over all the cases related to alleged irregularities of chit fund schemes in the state to CBI for further investigation.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice (Acting) K Sreedhar Rao and Justice P K Saikia gave the order after hearing a batch of public interest litigations and writ petitions filed by various investors and agents of chit fund companies operating in Assam.
The judges directed the police to hand over all the FIRs pending and under investigation in different police stations to CBI.

There are more than 200 FIRs in different police stations across the state and a number of them are being investigated by CID.
The PILs and writ petitions were filed for alleged illegalities committed by different chit fund companies in Assam for siphoning out crores of rupees from poor investors.
