HC asks authorities to consider PIL within 2 months

The Madras High Court today directed the Thiruvallur District Collector to consider the representation made by Social Activist 'Traffic' K.R. Ramaswamyto remove encroachments near a lake at a village in Thirumullaivoyal within a period of two months.

The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M.M. Sundresh, before which the PIL filed by Ramasamy came up, directed authorities to consider the representation made on November 3, 2014 within a period of two months.

In his petition Ramasamy submitted that the Arafath Lake situated at Sozhambedu Village of Thirumullaivoyal of Ambattur Taluk, Thiruvallur District, which has been in existence for several decades, was encroached by anti-social elements.
 

The petitioner submitted that due to the encroachments water resource to that area was dwindling which may lead to water scarcity to in and around the locality.

Village residents had sent several representations to the Chief Minister cell and the Commissioner, Avadi Municipality, but in vain following which the PIL was filed, the petitioner said.
