The Allahabad High Court today fixedJuly 3 as the date for hearing in the Unnao rape case and asked the CBI to file a progress report in the matter by then.

The court had on May21 stayed trial under POCSOAct at Unnai in the case in which BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar is an accused along with others.

Today it was informed on behalf of the state government that a letter had been issued, seeking consent of the chief justice of the court for transfer of the case from Unnao to Lucknow

The trial in the two connected cases was going on in different courts - one in special CBI court at Lucknow and and in the case under POCSO Act in a special court at Unnao.

The court fixedJuly3as next date of hearing.

The order to stay trial at Unnao was earlier passed after hearing an application by the CBI. The CBI had prayed for transfer of case from Unnao to Lucknow.

The bench comprising Chief Justice DB Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar had taken 'suo-moto' cognizance of the case on a letter written by an advocate of the court.

A 17-year-old girl has alleged that she was raped by the MLA at his residence when she had gone to meet him with a relative seeking a job last year. The case had led to widespread outrage.
