HC asks CID to probe extortion case involving TMC leader

The Calcutta High Court today directed CID to investigate a case of extortion in which Trinamool Congress leader in South 24-Parganas district Kaizar Ahmed is an accused.

Observing that extortion demands have become an organised crime, Justice Joymalyo Bagchi directed that an officer of the rank of Additional SP would investigate the allegation of demand of extortion money from a businessman at Bhangar in South 24-Parganas district.

Justice Bagchi observed that the extortionists were even hampering government work while directing CID to file a progress report in the investigation within a month.

Ahmed, an influential leader in Bhangar area on eastern outskirts of the metropolis, had allegedly demanded money from Lalbabu Mollah, the petitioner.
