The Madras High Court today directed Tamil Nadu district officials to file reports on steps taken to enforce the provisions of an act related to sexual harassment of women at workplaces.
The first bench comprising chief justice of the high court Indira Banerjee and justice M Sundar gave the direction to the district collectors, commissioners, as well as the Directorate of Social Welfare Department.
The court gave the order while hearing a PIL by one Karuppusamy seeking a direction to the district officers to ensure constitution and functioning of internal complaint committees, as mandated by the the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplaces (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, in all workplaces, including factories.

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that there were media reports about women facing sexual harassment at workplaces in the state.
Many women were keeping mum about their sufferings due to fear, while some others have either escaped or complained to certain organisations, the counsel submitted.
