HC asks govt to inform stage of probe in Prabu Daya case

: Kerala High court today directed the state government to inform the stage of investigation with regard to the case relating to mid-sea collision of Singapore flagged cargo vessel 'M V Prabu Daya' and a fishing vessel off Alappuzha coast on March 1, 2012, which killed five persons.

Justice K Ramakrishnan issued the direction on an appeal filed by the vessel owners to modify the order of the Judicial First Class Magistrate-Alappuzha imposing a condition to furnish a bank guarantee of Rs five crore to release the ship.

The court directed the police to inform the present stage of investigation within 10 days.
 

Police informed that the fishing boat which had sunk after the incident had not yet been salvaged and its chemical analysis was also to be taken. Huge amount would be needed to salvage the boat, the court was informed.

Two fishermen were killed on the day of the incident and three others had gone missing. Their bodies were recovered by naval divers later.

The captain of the ship was arrested from Chennai.
