Madras High Court today questioned the state government as to why the one-man commission's report on the building collapse at suburban Moulivakkam here has not yet been tabled in the assembly.

Sixty-one persons lost their lives after the 11-storeyed building collapsed on June 28 last year. The state government had set up an inquiry commission to probe the circumstances leading to the collapse.

DMK leader M K Stalin and social activist 'Traffic' Ramaswamy moved the High Court seeking CBI inquiry on the incident.

They also sought direction to the authorities to demolish the building standing adjacent to the collapsed tower and to pay compensation to the purchasers.

During the pendency of the case, it was informed by the government that Justice (Retd) R Reghupathy commission had submitted its report on the incident.

The first bench of Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice TS Sivagnanam directed the State to table the report in the State assembly.

Concurring with the submission of the petitioners that the report would expire if it is not tabled in the assembly within six months after submitting it to the government, the Bench warned the government that it would be inclined to direct CBI inquiry.

However, following a submission by the advocate general that he would get appropriate instruction from the government on the issue, the Bench adjourned the matter to July 13.
