Jharkhand High Court today directed state police chief Rajeev Kumar to probe into human trafficking following allegations of minor tribal girls being lured of employment in far off states only to leave them helpless.

The division bench of acting Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Amitav K Gupta asked the DGP to investigate the matter and institute criminal cases against an NGO.

The court also directed the labour secretary to inquire whether any girl had been offered service or not.

The direction to the DGP came after the bench heard a PIL filed by All India Progressive Women's Society, accusing the NGO of engaging itself in illegal trafficking of tribal girls to Kerala and other states on the pretext of imparting them technical training and providing them with jobs.

The petitioner also informed the court that the Jharkhand Women's Commission has already appointed a commission to inquire into illegal trafficking of young girls to Kerala and that some of them were found positive during pregnancy tests.

The next date of hearing has been fixed on 25 November.
