HC asks police to file case against Thouheed Jamath's leader

The Madras High Court bench here today directed police to file a case against Tamil Nadu Thouheed Jamath's leader M S Sulaiman for allegedly speaking against saluting national flag at a meeting and posting the same in the Facebook also, provided cognizable offence is made out as stated by the complainant.

Justice C T Selvam gave the direction to tenkasi police after counsel for government informed the court that a case had been registered against Sulaiman and sought time to file the doucments.

"If cognizable offence is made out, then file a case and report to this court within two weeks" the judge said.
 

The petitioner K Selvam, an advocate, submitted that Sulaiman had given "wrong guidance and misled" young people and women about the issue of saluting the national flag. It was also posted in the Facebook on August 25 last year. It was a cognizable offence.

He said he had given a complaint to Tenkasi police where the meeting was held, but no action had been taken, following wich he approached the court.
