The Calcutta High Court today asked the Superintendent of Police of Murshidabad to file a fresh report on the case relating to the abduction of a councillor saying he was not satisfied with the first report.

Hearing the case, Justice I P Mukherjee said he is not satisfied with the report given by the SP today and asked him to give a fresh report.

He also said if the court is not satisfied with the second report it will be forced to order a CBI inquiry into the matter.

The court had earlier expressed displeasure at the functioning of West Bengal Police and observed that a section of it was spineless and could learn from judges to discharge their responsibilities.

Debojyoti Roy, an Independent Councillor at Kandi, was said to have a pivotal role as the Left and Trinamool Congress were evenly poised at eight members each for a trust vote in February for the position of chairman of the municipal body of Kandi town.

Roy was later rescued by the police at a road check-point from a car.
