HC asks Tiruvallur collector to look into encroachment charges

Madras High Court has directed the District Collector of neighbouring Thiruvallur district to ascertain whether land falling in the course of Koasthalai River in Tiruverkadu locality had been encroached.

First bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sathish K Agnihotri and Justice K Ravichandrabaabu directed the District Collector to inspect the land in question through the revenue authorities and file a status report in two weeks.

The directive was given on a petition by one G Thangaraj of the city who alleged that land to the extent of five grounds (one ground is approximately 2,400 sq ft) had allegedly been encroached one K P S Illayaraj of Kaduvetti.
 

He submitted that people of Bharathi Nagar used the channel for irrigation purposed and domestic usage.

As there was no response from authorities to the complaints made by him, I have filed the petition, he added.

The bench adjourned the matter to be heard after two weeks.
