The Uttarakhand High Court today directed the state government to admit children who lost their parents in the 2013 Kedarnath tragedy to Navodaya Vidyalayas and bear the expenses for it.

Hearing a PIL filed by Kalika Prasad Kala, a division bench of the high court comprising Justices Rajiv Sharma and Sudhanshu Dhulia directed the government to admit 132 children, who had either lost both their parents or father in the tragedy to Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya or Shayama Prasad Mukherjee Navodaya Vidyalaya, whichever is closer to their place of residence, in the academic session 2017-18.

Earlier, the high court had last year ordered the government to raise the compensation amount to the affected families by fifty percent and pay Rs 7500 per month to minor children of such families till they attained adulthood.
