The Rajasthan High Court Wednesday temporarily banned meetings and rallies at a public park in its vicinity following difficulties faced by lawyers and litigants in reaching it today during a chief minister's function at the ground.

While banning rallies, demonstrations etc at the ground called Amrudo ka Bagh, a bench of justices M N Bhandari and D C Somani also asked authorities not to divert the traffic at nearby Ambedkar Circle and other points leading to the court.

The bench issued the interim order on oral complaints by lawyers, who had been stuck up in the traffic snarls due to an ongoing functions of Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje Scindia to celebrate the Teachers' Day and address the teachers.

Taking cognisance of the lawyers' complaint, the bench turned it into a public interest litigation and sought the state government's stand on the plea to ban rallies and meetings at Amrudo Ka Bagh permanently, which often makes the high court out of bounds for lawyers and litigants.

The bench sought the government's stand, issuing notices, amongst others to the chief secretary and the state police chief, asking them to file their replies by the next date of hearing of the matter.

The bench also asked High Court's Bar Association president Anil Upman to assist the court as amicus curiae in the matter.
