HC circuit bench sought in Mangaluru

Various city-based social organisations including 'Namma Mane Namma Ooru' have come together to press the government to set up a circuit bench of the Karnataka High Court in Mangaluru.

A circuit bench of the High Court here will largely help the economically backward sections in the region who can have better access to judiciary and litigation process, Namma Mane Namma Ooru (our home, our place) founder B S Chandru said, addressing reporters here today.

People in the coastal districts now have to travel to Bengaluru for appeals against local court verdicts, he said, adding that establishment of a circuit bench here will help them and those from neighbouring districts of Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Uttara Kannada.
 

He said memoranda had been submitted to the Governor, Chief Minister, Law Minister and Local MPs and MLAs on October 22 last.

The Bar association was also in favour of the demand.

Chandru said demonstrations would be held in front of thedeputy commissioner's office, party offices and residences oflocal MPs and MLAs to press their demand.

The movement for HC bench is supported by Prajavikasa Trust, Canara Gas and Allied Workers Association, Nagarika Hitarkshana Samiti, Karnataka Raitha Andolana Samiti and DK taximen's association.
