The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today treated as closed a case filed against Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister S P Shanmuganathan by a school teacher charging that the minister developed "adulterous relationship" with his wife and threatened him even after he filed his divorce petition.

Justice Vaidhyanathan closed the case after Government advocate submitted that police had investigated about the complaint against the minister and had closed the case as "mistake of fact"

The petitioner M Inbaraj had submitted that his wife had left him and two sons for Shanmuganathan, forcing him to file a divorce petition.

He submitted that on November nine when he was waiting for a bus the minister and his five henchmen came to him and scolded without any reason. They also threatened him and asked to give a share of his house to the wife. He said when he refused, the minister's supporters threatened to murder him.

He said he approached the High Court after police at Sathankulam and Superintendent of Police of Tuticorin district refused to accept the complaint against the minister.

The High Court had issued a notice to state government, the Superintendent of Police.

When the counsel for the government submitted the police had closed the complaint as a "mistake of fact" after proper investigation, Justice Vaidhyanathan ordered closure of the case.
